While visiting the spectacular city of Barcelona, it is a must to spend some time on the beach.  It is a great place to get off the tourist track and relax and get some sun.  Plus, this beach is a “10”  for people watching!

It is so easy to get to the beach in Barcelona.  Just walk down the popular and entertaining street of Las Ramblas, past Plaza Colon, cross the big boulevard, walk by the marina, and you’ll see the public beach next to the marina.  From Plaza Catalunya you can walk to the beach in 20 minutes (unless you stop along the way to enjoy the buskers on Las Ramblas or stop to take pictures of the sights.)   There is also a subway (metro) stop near the beach for those who might be farther away.

Once on the beach, you will find groups of lounge chairs and umbrellas that you can rent for the day.  It should cost about 6 euros for the day, and 10 euros if you rent an umbrella  too.  If you don’t feel like renting, just take your own towel!

Once you’re comfortable, slathered with sunscreen or have taken your dip in the Mediterranean Sea, sit back and relax!  The Mediterranean is a gorgeous sight!  Besides the beauty of the sea you  will be fully entertained by the  other sights you might see—every body shape, age and form of beach wear (or lack of) you can imagine.

It is also worth accepting a massage from a pesky ‘masseur” that are combing the beach.  The cost of the massage starts at 5 euros. Then, you might be easily enticed to pay the 20 euros for a full body massage – very worth it!

July and August are the busiest and warmest months – when people watching is at its peak… but anytime of the year is great to spend some down time on Barcelona’s great beach!
